Why We Rebuild
Independent retailers are the heart of our communities. When disaster strikes, we step in restoring stores, livelihoods, and hope. The Independent Rebuild Project brings together vendor partners, industry experts, and volunteers to give struggling retailers a second chance.
Rebuilding Hope in Asheville
Bette’s Boutique is a beloved Biltmore Village retailer that was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene, forcing the business to close its doors and navigate an unexpected and difficult road to recovery. Like many small businesses following a natural disaster, the process has been slow, expensive, and overwhelming, requiring far more time, resources, and resilience than most owners ever anticipate.
While construction and repairs are finally nearing completion, reopening a store takes more than new walls and fresh paint. It takes inventory, labor, thoughtful merchandising, logistics, and a strong support system to bring a space back to life. That is where Heart on Main Street steps in.
From April 1–3, our volunteers, partners, and donors will come together to help Bette’s Boutique move back into its space, restock and organize inventory, rebuild displays, and prepare the store for reopening so this small business can welcome customers back with confidence and momentum.
