The Resilience of Green Apple Florist: Rising from the Ashes and Battling Nature's Fury

A remarkable story of resilience and determination unfolds in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, nestled amidst picturesque landscapes. The Green Apple Florist, a beloved local establishment, has endured multiple setbacks, including a devastating fire eight years ago and a recent destructive tornado. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Green Apple Florist continues to bloom, embodying the spirit of the community it serves.

Owners of the Green Apple

The Green Apple Florist, owned by Lacy Hankins and Amanda Rutherford, for the past seven years, has been an integral part of the Rolling Fork community for decades. Known for their exquisite floral arrangements and exceptional customer service, the florist became a beloved staple for residents and visitors alike. Hankins and Rutherford have poured their hearts into the business, fostering a sense of warmth and hospitality that made the Green Apple Florist more than just a store.

Eight years ago, a devastating fire engulfed the Green Apple Florist in a tragic turn of events, leaving nothing but charred remnants. The entire community mourned the loss of this cherished establishment, but the Hankins and Rutherford refused to let adversity dampen their spirits. With unwavering determination, they vowed to rebuild and restore the Green Apple Florist to its former glory.

The rebuilding process was a challenging feat. Hankins and Rutherford faced numerous challenges, from securing funds and permit to finding temporary accommodation for their business operations. However, with overwhelming support from the community and local authorities, they persevered. After months of hard work and dedication, the Green Apple Florist reopened its doors, eliciting jubilant celebrations throughout Rolling Fork.

The post-fire Green Apple Florist emerged as a resilient survivor and reinvented itself as a haven of beauty and inspiration. Hankins and Rutherford utilized the rebuilding process to modernize their space, introducing innovative design concepts and expanding their product offerings. With an expanded selection of flowers, plants, and unique gifts, the Green Apple Florist became a must-visit destination for those seeking aesthetic pleasure and heartfelt gifting options.

When the Green Apple Florist was back on its feet, nature unleashed its fury on Rolling Fork. A destructive F5 tornado tore through the town, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Once again, Hankins and Rutherford found themselves facing a monumental setback. The tornado had demolished their recently restored building and greenhouse, crashing down their efforts.

However, the indomitable spirit of Hankins and Rutherford has shone through yet again. With the support and encouragement of the community, they resolved to rebuild for the second time. In the face of overwhelming adversity, Hankins and Rutherford drew strength from their love for their business and unwavering commitment to their customers.

Heart on Main Street Donation

Recently, the Heart on Main Street team visited Rolling Fork and met with Hankins and Rutherford at the sight of their shattered storefront. Through a robust donation campaign, we presented Hankins and Rutherford with a check for $10,000 to help facilitate the rebuilding process, along with a gift from Dallas Market Center, which will host the duo later in the year during one of their shows. The donation went a step further, with Shastra and Banyan Living donating inventory once the store reopens.

"We were very excited," Hankins replied when asked how they felt about their industry partners' generosity. "You can't explain the feeling of gratitude. I have never experienced a disaster, so this road has been difficult."

The Green Apple Florist's journey is a testament to the power of resilience, community, and unwavering determination. Despite facing the dual challenges of a devastating fire and a destructive tornado, Hankins and Rutherford refused to be defeated. They will rebuild their business not once but twice, showcasing their unwavering spirit and dedication to serving Rolling Fork.
